Cedrus deodara is derived from the Sanskrit word “devdar”, meaning “timber of the gods”.

Himalayan Cedarwood– a symbol of strength, wisdom and abundance. Its majestic and powerful stature is easy to spot. It contains a rich, warm and woody aroma that is used in Aromatherapy to help with grounding, meditating, and to promote focus, concentration, strength, balance and stability. Traditionally it has been used in Aryuvedic and Tibetan medicine to aid in meditation.

Cedarwood is a must have essential oil during the winter because of respiratory support. It helps to remove phlegm from the lungs and respiratory tract. This is a great oil to use if you have a cold or cough because it helps ease congestion. Simply blend with a carrier oil and rub onto your chest and neck. You could also apply below your nose to help with congestion.

Cedarwood is also a tonic for supporting and enhancing overall energy and balance to the adrenals, kidneys*. It is purifying and stimulates the lymphatic system as well as cleansing the skin to remove toxins and bring luster.

Cedarwood is stimulating and can help calm, comfort, center and bring you courage. It can help clear scattered thoughts, mental strain, anxiety, worry, fear while instilling confidence and security in times of trouble or during stressful transitions.

Hair Loss
Cedarwood has been shown to be a successful treatment for alopecia areata. In a recent study, it was found that massaging the scalp with a combination of several essential oils, including lavender, rosemary, thyme and cedarwood (Diluted in a base of jojoba or grapeseed oil), improved hair growth. Interesting Fact: Cedarwood is a natural insect repellent as well, which is why you can buy the “cedar chips or cedar balls” at the store to use in the home of for pets as a natural pest control.

Cedarwood Blends Well With: jasmine, juniper, lavender, rosemary, cypress, neroli, clary sage, and citrus oils such as bergamot, lemon, and orange.

How to Use Cedarwood

Use in the diffuser: to promote a calm and meditative state

Hair Formula for Alopecia Support:
Blend the following in an amber glass bottle. Massage into scalp daily.
1 oz Jojoba Oil
5 drops Rosemary
5 drops Lavender
3 drops Thyme
3 drops Cedarwood

Revitalize Bath- One of my favorite bath recipes. Restore your body and mind after a long day. Enjoy the aroma, sit back and relax for 20 minutes.
Shake well in a jar and our in bath water right before getting in.
1 Cup Epsom Salts
1 tbsp Castile Soap
3 drops Cedarwood
2 drops Lime
3 drops Rosemary
2 drops Orange
2 drops Lavender

Restorative Blend- To support Adrenals & Energy. This is a 10% Dilution.
Dilute in 1 oz amber glass bottle. Massage into lower back, to be absorbed into adrenal/kidney region.
1 oz Chamomile Infused Carrier Oil
20 drops Cedarwood
20 drops Black Spruce
20 drops Pine
