Copaiba Essential Oil
This exotic, aromatic treasure of the Amazon has a gentle, sweet aroma. It is used in aromatherapy for its analgesic and anti-inflammatory actions, including inflammatory skin conditions, respiratory support, circulation and calming the mind.* Its light aroma is subtle and can be easily overpowered with other essential oils that have a stronger scent.
Copaiba’s chemical makeup is over 50% sesquiterpenes, including Caryophyllene which has been documented to have strong anti-inflammatory effects.#
The essential oil is extracted from the oleoresin (balsam) accumulated in cavities within the tree trunk. It is harvested by tapping or drilling holes into the wood of the trunk and collecting the resin that drips out, in a similar manner as harvesting maple syrup.
Did you know? A single copaiba tree can provide about 40 liters of oleoresin annually! It is a sustainable rainforest resource that can be harvested without destroying the tree or the forest in which it grows.
