What is it about the smell of orange that makes us smile? Its sweet, juicy aroma brings us joy almost instantly! An Aromatherapy teacher once said, “you cannot walk inside a room with someone that is peeling an orange and feel angry.” All of the citrus fruits in general are highly uplifting, and often overlooked. Let’s dive in a little deeper into one of our favorites: Orange

The Sweet Orange essential oil we have at Barefut is extracted through expression of the peels and is grown in Portugal. Its aroma is warming and cheerful. Almost everyone can really enjoy the delightful aroma. Deliciously refreshing, orange is bright and uplifting. It is commonly used in aromatherapy for enhancing the mood and calming the system. Need to create a cheerful ambiance? There is nothing better than a little orange in the air. Orange enlivens! It is uplifting and balances the mind and body. It helps to reduce worry and can be used as an anxiety support. Take it with you in your Aromatherapy inhaler to carry cheerfulness anywhere you go. Yes that is the beauty of Orange. It just is.

On the physical side, orange is detoxifying, skin clearing and an overall body tonic. It tones and clears the skin, stimulates the lymphatic system, soothes the nerves which makes it a wonderful addition to your sleep blend.* I love the blood orange variety as well for its sharp and tantalizing aroma! It can be used interchangeably with sweet orange as both have similar properties.

Orange is also great for our little ones. It is a must have oil for those who have children and need a gentle oil that can also help support healthy  digestion and tummy upsets.

Blends well with: Bay, Black pepper, cinnamon, ginger, ylang ylang, lavender, clary sage, juniper, patchouli, marjoram, litsea cubeba, coriander, frankincense, geranium, bergamot, grapefruit and other citrus oils.

Here are 5 ways you can use Sweet Orange:

  1. Use a drop in direct palm inhalation or on a tissue to enliven the spirit and promote optimism.
  2. Diffuse orange oil into your work-space or at home to create a pleasant atmosphere.
  3. Invigorating Massage Oil- Dilute in 1 oz Carrier Oil: 5 drops Orange + 5 drops Peppermint
  4. Night time Diffuser Blend– Diffuse for 30 minutes -1 hour maximum for an adult. For a child 10-20 minutes is usually sufficient.          3 drops Sweet Orange + 3 drops Lavender
  5. Mind at Bliss- Inhaler Blend

This blend is complete bliss. Use anytime you need to take the edge off stress, and for a good uplift when needed. Add essential oils to a dish first, then soak a cotton wick (or cotton round) to use in your Aromatherapy inhaler.
