Allspice essential oil is derived from steam distillation of the berries of allspice trees, grown in the Caribbean islands and South America. Allspice is commonly known as Pimenta, Pimento, or Jamaica pepper. The aroma of allspice essential oil smells like a beautiful combination of nutmeg, cloves, cinnamon, pepper, and a few other spices all rolled into one.
Allspice essential oil is one of the most widely used oils because of its antibacterial, antioxidant, anti-stress, and anti-inflammatory properties. It is used for a variety of reasons such as preservative, in perfumery, medicinal uses, and as a flavoring agent. During the past few decades scientific research has explored the medical benefits of allspice oil such as enhancing blood circulation, lowering cholesterol, reducing intestinal gas, boosting the immune system, relieving aches and pains, and more.
Some of the health benefits of allspice oil include:
Pain relief: The main constituents of allspice essential oil have the chemical compounds that eliminate inflammation. As a result, the decreased inflammation reduces pain in parts of the body. For this reason, it is known as a great oil to provide relief from gout, muscle aches, arthritis, and similar ailments.
Aids digestion: The anti-inflammatory and calming effect of allspice essential oil may ease cramps, soothe the stomach, and facilitate the healthy digestion. In fact, the eugenol compound can ease digestive problems such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and constipation. It also reduces excess flatulence and bloating.
Boosts immunity: Allspice essential oil helps to strengthen the gastrointestinal system due to antibacterial and antifungal properties. It protects from outside attacks through a natural immune response.
Improves blood circulation: The rubefacient effect of the oil works as a stimulator which warms the skin and increases blood circulation. As a result, it increases the energy and provides proper oxygenation of extremities in the body.
Anti-aging: Allspice oil is a very potent antioxidant due to the presence of tannins, quercetin, eugenol, and other chemical compounds. The antioxidant quality is very effective in countering threats of aging and helps to lead a long and healthy youthful life. The oil slows aging by neutralizing free oxidants or radicals.
Anti-cancer: Free radicals are the harmful byproducts of cellular metabolism. These radicals mutate healthy cells, which often leads to harmful and serious diseases like cancer. The antioxidant property of Allspice oil helps to fight against cancer and to support a healthy life.
