Stay Hydrated! Infused Water & Hibiscus Sangria

The warm weather has arrived! Our skin is seeing a lot more sun then other times of the year. We are going to have a summer series packed with recipes that you can use to take care of yourself from head to toe, protecting your skin, hair, and nourishing your senses.

The first recipes I wanted to share have to do with your insides: hydration. It is so important to stay hydrated not only as the weather gets warmer, but year round.

If you want to avoid drinks that are full of artificial colors or sweeteners, here are some healthy and fun beverage options:

Cucumber-Mint Infused Water

We serve this in our wellness retreat. Clients love it. It is so refreshing!

To make:

Add the following to a pitcher of water and allow to soak. The longer it sits in the water, the more flavor it will extract. You do not need to strain.

  • Slice half of a cucumber into thin, round slices
  • Add a few fresh mint leaves (usually about 4-5)

Tired of Cucumbers or Mint? Here are other options:

  • Honeydew Melon/Lime
  • Orange slice
  • Strawberry/Basil- Scrunch a few fresh basil leaves and strawberries (cut in halves) to release flavor & squish a little with a spoon.
  • Blackberry-Cucumber Water
  • Watermelon (appr ¾ cups)
  • Lemon/cucumber/mint
  • Raspberry-Lime
  • Honeydew, cantaloupe, and cucumber
  • Raspberry-mint
  • Peaches & berries

Hibiscus- Mint “sangria”

Make your own non-alcoholic sangria the whole family can enjoy. Not only is the Hibiscus flower delicious, it is very nutritious!

  • 8- Hibiscus Mint Tea Bags
  • ½ Gallon Purified Water

Directions:

In a pot, bring water to a boil. Add tea bags. Cover and allow to steep 5-10 minutes. The longer it steeps the stronger the flavor. Hibiscus has a natural sweetness already, and if you add fruit, it will make it even sweeter. If desired however, you may add sweetener while it’s still warm. Honey or Agave nectar are my favorites.

Once you have removed the bags and your infusion has cooled down, you may add fruit.

Add slices of oranges, frozen berries, peaches, and cherries etc. The longer the fruit is infused, the more it will burst with flavor. Serve cold, over ice. Enjoy!
